Harry Styles is taking his next victory lap… this time, on the cover of Runner’s World. Known for his magnetic stage presence and fashion-forward artistry, the global pop icon has traded sequins for sneakers in a cover story that explores how running has become an essential part of his self-discovery and balance.

In the interview, Harry reveals that his relationship with running helps him reconnect with himself in ways that fame never could. “As a musician, there’s so much I still don’t understand about what that means and what that will mean to me in years to come,” he tells Runner’s World. “But [running is] a competition with yourself… to make something and be celebrated for it externally is about other people deciding that they like it.”

Speaking with novelist Haruki Murakami, an avid runner himself, Styles reflects on the freedom and anonymity he finds while running through London. “You can turn a corner wherever. I think with people who see me, it’s a bit more ‘Was that…?’ rather than, ‘Oh look it’s him!’ And by that time, you’re already gone.”

The singer also opened up about the small rituals that keep him going: from fueling up with “the biggest croissant I can find” before long runs, to balancing hydration strategically before marathons. He recalled his Berlin Marathon experience: “I fueled up in the morning with electrolytes and not too much actual water, then drank lots during the race.”

Beyond fitness, running has reshaped how Styles experiences the world. After years on tour with One Direction, he says he now makes it a point to explore cities on foot. “You see things from ground level that you don’t see if you’re driving,” he notes. “When I travel now, it’s about committing to going outdoors to see some stuff… you experience places in a whole different way.”

For Harry, the simplicity of running is its greatest reward: “You are the observer once more, and you can go about your day in the most naked form. It’s just you, alone, moving through the world. You don’t need anything, just a pair of shoes.”

Harry Styles may be known for Grammy awards and sold-out arenas, but on the road and the trail, he’s just another runner chasing clarity… one stride at a time.
