John Summit took over his home city of Chicago last night at Lollapalooza night one, and the Bud Light Stage basically became his own personal club.

The Naperville-born DJ opened his set with “Shadows” off his latest album, Ctrl Escape, immediately locking the packed field into that peak-hour zone he’s known for.

In between the high-energy drops and seamless transitions, John got the crowd emotional reflecting on his journey, from working a 9–5 as an accountant to becoming one of the defining DJs of his generation. It was the kind of full-circle moment that hits differently when you’re playing a massive festival in your hometown.

The show doubled as a live teaser for what fans can expect when he kicks off his first-ever arena run, the CTRL ESCAPE Arena Tour, starting at State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois, on October 1st.

From there, he’ll hit Boston, Happy Valley, Washington, D.C., Houston, Austin, Fort Worth, Columbus, Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and more, before wrapping on December 4th at Oakland Arena in Oakland, California. It’s a full coast-to-coast chance to see his high-energy, late-night style translated to a proper arena scale
