Olivia Rodrigo has officially released “serena joy” worldwide, following the song’s exclusive physical debut at Analog Records in Orange County last Friday. The limited CD release gave local fans the first chance to hear the new track just days before Rodrigo’s sold-out Daisy Chain Fields festival, set for August 29th at Great Park in Irvine, California.
Written by Rodrigo alongside longtime collaborator Dan Nigro during the sessions for her third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, “serena joy” finds the singer-songwriter leaning into a sharper, punk-inspired sound. Angsty, urgent and charged with protest energy, the track arrives as a fitting addition to an era defined by Rodrigo’s candid songwriting and growing cultural voice.
The timing of the release is especially significant. Daisy Chain Fields will bring together an all-women lineup of artists, nonprofit organizations and fans in support of women and girls. A portion of net proceeds from “serena joy” will be donated to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund, extending the song’s message beyond the music itself.
Rodrigo’s choice to debut the single at Analog Records also continues her support of independent record stores and the communities surrounding them. Earlier this year, nearly 200 independent stores hosted midnight-sale events celebrating the release of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, creating one of the biggest Record Store Day-organized midnight sale events in recent years.
Fans will be able to experience “serena joy” live for the first time when Rodrigo takes the stage at Daisy Chain Fields this Saturday, August 29th. From there, she’ll begin her massive sold-out The Unraveled Tour, kicking off September 25th in Hartford, Connecticut.
The 86-date global arena run has already surpassed 1 million tickets sold, added new dates due to demand and broken venue records. The songstress also brought back her Silver Star Tickets program, offering a limited number of $20 tickets to help make the tour more accessible for fans.
