This is pretty big news for Ansel Elgort!
Ansel Elgort is gearing up to star as a male lead in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming remake musical, “West Side Story.” The 24-year-old actor landed the role just a few short weeks ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ansel will take on the role of Tony, which was first played by Larry Kert in the 1957 Broadway original version.
THR reports that Steven was worried he’d have to postpone the project due to the lack of male actors with the ability to dance, sing, and of course, act. After a year of searching…Ansel was luckily able to save the day as getting one step closer to finding a full cast, lol!
Planning on starting production in the summer of 2019, the cast list and details has been kept extremely hush-hush. While it’s unclear who will and won’t be apart of Spielberg’s exciting new project, the search for a full cast is almost complete and will most likely be announced in the coming months.
Who do you want to see in this new version of “West Side Story…” ?
