Alright, alright, alright… we’ve been waiting for this one.
More than three years after it was first announced, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are finally bringing Brothers to Apple TV this week.
The new comedy series premieres Wednesday, September 23rd, with McConaughey and Harrelson starring as fictionalized versions of themselves in a story that takes one of the most fascinating questions surrounding their real-life friendship and runs WILD with it: What if Matthew and Woody really are brothers?
ARE MATTHEW AND WOODY ACTUALLY BROTHERS?
Well, in Brothers, they might be.
The series follows the longtime friends as their relationship gets thrown into complete chaos by a decades-old family secret.
After Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, he packs up the family and heads to Austin for an extended stay at Matthew’s ranch. What starts as an opportunity to escape and regroup quickly becomes something much bigger when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac, played by Holland Taylor, accidentally reveals a secret suggesting Matthew and Woody could actually be brothers.
Naturally, Woody needs answers. His hunt for the truth begins turning the ranch upside down while Matthew has another fairly major situation on his hands: a potential run for Governor of Texas.
You know, normal best-friend stuff. The result brings together friendship, family, fame and identity while blurring the line between the real Matthew and Woody we know and the completely chaotic fictional world created around them.
THREE YEARS LATER, ‘BROTHERS’ IS FINALLY HERE
Apple originally announced the series back in March 2023, with McConaughey and Harrelson attached to star and executive produce.
Now, more than three years later, we finally get to watch it.
The first two episodes of Brothers arrive on Apple TV on September 23rd, followed by a new episode every week leading up to the season finale on November 4th.
And considering Matthew and Woody’s decades-long friendship already feels like the perfect setup for a buddy comedy, building an entire show around the possibility that they’ve secretly been related this whole time?
