If Avery Cochrane isn’t on your pop radar yet, it’s time to change that. The rising pop artist has officially released her newest single, “Toy Gun,” giving fans their first taste of her highly anticipated debut album, and we have a feeling we’re going to be hearing a lot more from her.
Blending synth-pop, disco influences and shimmering strings, “Toy Gun” might sound ready for the dance floor, but there’s something much more vulnerable happening underneath… the song explores what happens when you’re trying to be the strong one in a relationship while quietly questioning everything yourself.
“I wrote this song about the freedom of leaving a relationship that was emotionally draining,” Avery explained in an official press release. “To me, acting ‘toughened with a toy gun’ means assuming the role of the brave and secure partner, despite being unsure of the relationship yourself.”
Avery will also kick off her first-ever headlining run, the Weapons of Iridescence Tour, on October 3rd in Washington, D.C. The 13-date North American tour will make stops in cities including Philadelphia, Cambridge, New York, Chicago Los Angeles, and more before wrapping up at Neumos in Seattle, WA on November 7th.
Between a debut album on the way, her first headlining tour and a new single that gives us something to dance to while simultaneously reconsidering our relationship choices, Avery Cochrane is entering a pretty exciting chapter. Consider “Toy Gun” our introduction to that chapter!
“Toy Gun” is available now on all streaming platforms, with its official visualizer out now.
