When it comes to legendary brand partnerships, Britney Spears and Pepsi are hard to beat. In February 2001, the 19-year-old pop princess signed a multi-million dollar global endorsement deal with PepsiCo that ran through 2004, and it was immediately clear this wasn’t just another celebrity collab.

In fact, Pepsi told ABC that year that “the deal with the 19-year-old singer was its biggest and most far-reaching agreement ever with an entertainer.” Britney made a whopping $8 million from the Pepsi deal in 2001 alone, setting the tone for what would become one of the most iconic brand partnerships of the decade.

The campaign wasn’t just about commercials. Pepsi co-sponsored her 2001 Dream Within a Dream Tour, which grossed a total of $53.3 million across its 2001–2002 run. Nigel Parry photographed the 2001 campaign, capturing Britney at the peak of her early-2000s superstardom.

The ads themselves became cultural moments. The Joy of Pepsi (2001) featured a prominent ad tracking the history of pop music and dance styles through the decades, premiering during the Academy Awards on March 25th, 2001. Ask for More, also in 2001, was a global promotional campaign featuring an exclusive theme song, commercials and collectible CDs.

And then there was We Will Rock You in 2004, the massive Roman Colosseum commercial featuring Britney alongside Beyoncé, P!nk and Enrique Iglesias, a gladiator-themed spectacle that still lives in the collective memory of anyone who grew up in that era.

From tour sponsorships to collectible merch and some of the most memorable TV spots of the early 2000s, Britney’s Pepsi run was more than just an endorsement. It was a full-blown cultural moment.
