Cheetah sisters… it’s finally happening! More than two decades after the original film premiered, The Cheetah Girls are officially making their return.
Yesterday it was announced that Disney Channel and Disney+ have greenlit The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen, bringing back some familiar faces while introducing a brand-new generation of Cheetahs.
Raven-Symoné and Adrienne Bailon-Houghton are set to reprise their beloved roles as Galleria and Chanel, while Sabrina Bryan will also return for a special appearance as Dorinda.
Fans will also see familiar faces offstage, with Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter reprising their roles as Dorothea and Juanita, the mothers of Galleria and Chanel.
According to the official synopsis, the story follows Galleria and Chanel as they travel to Africa with Galleria’s daughter, Faith, and her three friends to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary.
Along the way, the four teens will test their friendship, discover their voices, protect the preserve, and ultimately step into the spotlight as the next generation of Cheetah Girls.
As of now, Kiely Williams has not been announced as part of the cast, though fans are already hoping she’ll make an appearance before filming wraps.
The original film debuted on Disney Channel in 2003 and became an instant phenomenon, spawning two hit sequels The Cheetah Girls 2 and The Cheetah Girls: One World, along with chart-topping soundtracks, tours, and one of Disney’s most iconic girl groups.
Production on The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen is scheduled to begin later this month in South Africa, meaning fans won’t have to wait much longer for more exciting updates.
