The Academy is honoring what would have been Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday with a special 17-film series that traces her career from her early breakout roles to her late-career triumphs.

Running from June 1st to July 3rd, the screenings complement the Academy’s exhibition Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon. Though she became legendary for her “blonde bombshell” roles, she often chafed at being confined to them and was a self-described perfectionist who took deep control of her public image.

In a rare move for a woman in Hollywood at the time, she founded her own production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, asserting creative and business power over her work. The Academy’s screening series showcases 17 of her feature-length films, highlighting her commanding screen presence, sharp comedic timing, and evolution across nearly 15 years of indelible roles.

The series is programmed by K.J. Relth-Miller, with notes by Sari Navarro and K.J. Relth-Miller adapted from the Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon exhibition texts. The exhibition was also made possible by CHANEL.

For fans of classic Hollywood, this is a rare chance to experience Monroe’s full arc on the big screen while celebrating the centennial of one of cinema’s most iconic figures. Get tickets and more info here!
