IDIOT’S may have a new title, but the movie still sounds like one of the rowdiest comedies of the summer. Originally known as The Shitheads, the film stars Dave Franco, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Mason Thames in a story about two completely unqualified guys whose simple assignment to escort a rich kid to rehab quickly spirals into chaos.

The premise alone gives the movie instant “this is going to get out of hand fast” energy. With Franco and O’Shea Jackson Jr. leading the way, the film looks built around the kind of buddy-movie chemistry and escalating disaster that can make a comedy really take off. Add Mason Thames into the mix, and the whole thing feels like the sort of unruly setup that could turn into a cult favorite pretty quickly.

The movie is already building momentum ahead of its release, too. IDIOT’S will make its debut under the new title as the opening night presentation for the 50th Atlanta Film Festival on April 23rd, which is a pretty strong sign that the film is being positioned as a major talking point. It also hits theaters on August 28th, putting it right in the middle of a busy late-summer movie stretch.

What makes this one especially interesting is the combination of absurd premise and big-swing casting. It sounds like the kind of movie that knows exactly what it is: messy, funny, and probably one bad decision away from total disaster. If it lands the right way, IDIOT’S could end up being one of the summer’s most entertaining surprises.
