Grab the coffee, light the candles and prepare to spend the next several months wishing you lived in Stars Hollow.
Gilmore Girls season is officially HERE.
There’s something about the second fall arrives that makes returning to Lorelai and Rory Gilmore feel practically mandatory. The changing leaves, endless cups of coffee, Friday night dinners, Stars Hollow festivals and cozy New England backdrop have turned the series into one of television’s ultimate comfort watches.
But if you’re planning your annual rewatch, there’s actually a pretty perfect way to do it.
START ‘GILMORE GIRLS’ ON SEPTEMBER 22nd
Here’s the trick: start Gilmore Girls on September 22nd and watch four episodes each week.
Following that schedule allows many of the show’s changing seasons and holidays to line up surprisingly closely with the real-life calendar as you make your way through the series.
You’ll experience the cozy fall episodes during fall, move into Stars Hollow’s winter festivities around the holiday season and eventually reach spring alongside the real world.
Basically, your Gilmore Girls rewatch just became a lifestyle commitment.
And we’re completely okay with that.
FROM UNDERRATED TO UNTOUCHABLE
It’s kind of wild to look back at the show’s original run and realize just how overlooked Gilmore Girls was by major awards.
Despite becoming one of the defining shows of its era, the series won just one Emmy, for makeup in 2004. Awards clearly aren’t everything.
Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who served as its primary showrunner through Season 6, Gilmore Girls originally premiered on October 5, 2000 and introduced audiences to the fast-talking mother-daughter duo of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.
The series also marked Alexis Bledel’s first major acting role, with her performance as Rory launching a career that would continue long after she left Stars Hollow.
Gilmore Girls ultimately ran for seven seasons and 153 episodes from 2000 through 2007, before Lorelai, Rory and the rest of Stars Hollow returned nearly a decade later for the 2016 Netflix revival miniseries Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
More than 25 years after we first stepped into Luke’s Diner, new generations are still discovering the show while longtime fans continue returning to it again and again.
Maybe it’s the characters. Maybe it’s Stars Hollow. Maybe it’s the nostalgia.
Or maybe there’s just something about watching Lorelai Gilmore consume an unreasonable amount of coffee while the leaves change outside that feels like home. Whatever the reason, the calendar has spoken.
It’s fall, so it’s Gilmore Girls season. See you at Luke’s? 😉
