Kelela is bringing new avatar to life in an intimate new Spotify Live Room session.
The R&B artist recently stopped by Spotify Music Studios in Los Angeles to perform “idea 1” live for the first time. Taken from her recently released album new avatar, the performance puts Kelela’s smooth vocals front and center, giving the track a fresh new dimension outside of the studio version.
But that wasn’t the only special moment! Kelela also shared a stripped-back cover of Incubus’ “Mexico,” paying tribute to a band that directly influenced the sound and spirit of new avatar.
The cover trades the original’s rock atmosphere for something softer and more intimate, with Kelela’s airy melodies and powerful vocal delivery completely transforming the song into her own. It’s the kind of unexpected cover only Kelela could pull off: emotional, dreamy and impossible not to get lost in.
