Slayyyter is opening up about creative integrity, the connection between her stage persona and real self, and the people who keep her grounded.
The pop star recently sat down with Coup De Main in Los Angeles for a new interview and photo shoot that captures her latest era in full force. The accompanying images are undeniably stunning, but it is Slayyyter’s honest take on her work that stands out just as much.
“My whole process with anything I make is that I have to be the one that’s the most obsessed with it at the end of the day,” she shared. “As long as I feel really passionate about it and feel like I’m making it from a place of integrity, I think I will stand behind anything that I do.”
The singer, born Catherine Grace Garner, also spoke about the difference between Slayyyter the performer and the person behind the artist name. For her, the two no longer feel as separate as they may have once been.
“I feel like it’s all one and the same now,” she explained. “My stage persona is obviously pretty different because when performing, you kind of embody something a little more confident or a little more powerful, but I feel very in line with Slayyyter.”
She also revealed that her mother is loving her latest album, especially “Dance…” and, surprisingly, “$t. Loser.” “She’s dancing around; loves it,” Slayyyter said.
When asked what she feels most grateful for, Slayyyter pointed to her friends, family, fans, and the creative community around her. “I feel grateful that this music has connected with people,” she said. “I feel grateful for my fans that have stuck with me for so long.”
