Hocus Pocus 3 is officially in early development at Disney with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy set to reprise their roles as the Sanderson Sisters.

Deadline reported back in May that there are plans for a theatrical release this time around, following Hocus Pocus 2‘s record-setting Disney+ premiere.

News of a third installment of the bewitching films was announced in 2023 by Sean Bailey, former President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production.

After his exit from Disney in 2024, the third film was left in limbo for a while. But now, the project is moving forward again under Disney Live Action Studios, with Jessica Virtue, Executive Vice President of Production, overseeing the development.

Jen D’Angelo, who wrote Hocus Pocus 2, is also back working on potential storylines for the third film. “We’re still in the story phase, we’re still working on it. We’ve been working on some ideas, and it’s been fun to dive back into that world and we have so many directions in which to go and so many new characters to explore,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2023.

Bette Midler gave fans a glimpse into where things stand during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in October 2025. “They sent a script, and a lot of it was brilliant, so I got very excited,” she said. “Now, we’re sort of trying to figure out what it is, and where it’s going to be, and how much it’s going to cost, and all of those logistical things.”

While there’s no official release date yet, the plan for a theatrical release suggests Disney is betting big on the franchise’s continued appeal.
