In a world where everything is at our fingertips with a matter of seconds, we may have just gotten one of the best things; a directorial debut by Avan Jogia. “Door Mouse,” is about “a burlesque dancer with dreams of becoming a comic book artist investigates the disappearance of a close friend.”
The indie film, which is out now, came from a place of “frustration,” as Jogia said to Teen Vogue about the film. This was born out of not feeling very much agency in the film industry, especially as an actor of color. I was looking to find parts that I felt like I could dig a little deeper into as an actor and train myself to give good performances and improve as an actor,” he said.
“Good parts are hard enough to get ahold of, you know, regardless of [diversity]. And then you ask, how many films looking for a brown man are made a year?” It’s refreshing to see that Jogia is using his platform and voice to go up against your typical Hollywood movie focusing primary on a white male. To create art for people who need a reminder they aren’t alone, it’s incredible.
And get this… Avan shared that the first draft was completed within two weeks. It’s safe to say that we all need to watch and support this film with a talented roster and more so the incredible human being that created it.
“Door Mouse,” is playing in select theatres and is available for purchase and renting at the following; Apple iTunes, Google Play Movies, YouTube, Vudu, Microsoft Store, Redbox, Amazon Video as download or rent it on Vudu, Amazon Video, Apple iTunes, Google Play Movies, YouTube, Microsoft Store, Redbox, Spectrum On Demand, DIRECTV online.
