Charli XCX has officially begun her “Wuthering Heights” era, and it’s nothing short of hauntingly beautiful.
The pop provocateur dropped “House,” the first of several original songs written for Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of “Wuthering Heights,” starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, set to hit theaters on February 14th, 2026.
The song, a dark and poetic collaboration between Charli and The Velvet Underground’s legendary co-founder John Cale, feels like a gothic fever dream, balancing eerie restraint with cinematic tension.
The accompanying visual, directed by Mitch Ryan (who also did Charli’s “Party 4 U” video earlier this year), unfolds like an art film: shadowy, slow, and hypnotic, with Charli embodying both elegance and torment in equal measure.
In a note shared to X, Charli explained the inspiration behind the collaboration: “A few years ago, I watched Todd Haynes’ documentary about The Velvet Underground. One thing that stuck with me was how John Cale described a key sonic requirement of The Velvet Underground — that any song had to be both ‘elegant and brutal.’

“When the summer ended I was still ruminating on John’s words, so I decided to reach out to him… I sent him some songs and we started talking specifically about ‘House.’ We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was… well, it made me cry.”
“House” feels exactly like that, elegant and brutal; a perfect match for the haunting world of “Wuthering Heights.” The song’s sparse production, chilling vocals, and Cale’s poetic spoken word merge into something transcendent, setting the tone for what’s shaping up to be one of 2026’s most anticipated films and soundtracks.
