Two icons, two mics. Charli XCX sat down with Gwyneth Paltrow for a new episode of the goop podcast, and the conversation is exactly what you would expect from the queen of modern pop and the queen of clean-girl spiritual chic: smart, funny, a little chaotic, and very drink-wine-while-listening coded.
Charli talked all things post-BRAT era and teased what is coming next creatively. When it comes to her seventh studio album, she is already thinking in contrasts.
“I really like to work in contrasts. I think whatever I do next will just inherently be different to ‘BRAT’ because that is what feels natural,” she shared.
She revealed she has been experimenting heavily with strings, hinting at a totally new sound. “I’m exploring a lot of stuff with strings at the moment, which I’m really enjoying, and I haven’t really worked in that space before.”
And for everyone obsessed with the Charli + A24 cinematic universe, she confirmed her long-awaited film, “The Moment,” arrives early next year. She described it as “a revisionist history of BRAT… sort of like a music industry satire.” We are seated!
Charli also opened up about needing new creative outlets after a lifetime in studios. “I’ve been making music since I was 14… I love making music, but I think there was just a point where I was like, OK, I really need to exercise my creativity in a different way. I don’t actually really listen to that much music… what I am doing is I’m always watching films.”
Translation: mother is evolving again!
And in a moment that broke the internet in the softest way, Charli crowned Gwyneth a 365 Partygirl. “You’re a 365 partygirl, I loved it,” she told GP. Honestly? Accurate.
There is much more in the episode; identity, ambition, art, womanhood, and reinvention. It’s one of those conversations you save, pour a glass of wine, and fully lean into.
Charli talking brilliance, Gwyneth being effortlessly Gwyneth, and a future era brewing. We are so blessed.
