Miley Cyrus is ready to get even more personal with her fans.
The superstar just announced her brand-new single “Secrets,” dropping this Friday, September 19th. In a snippet shared on social media, Miley can is heard singing, “Anywhere you go / You know I’ll follow,” instantly sparking chills (and tears).
The song has a deep backstory. Miley revealed on the Reclaiming With Monica Lewinsky podcast earlier this year that “Secrets” was inspired by her dad during her parents’ divorce.
“I wrote this song about my dad, because I wanted him to tell me, even though they were secrets, even though I didn’t really want to know. I wanted to be the one he felt safe enough to tell me the things that were damaging to the family,” she said.
“As a middle child, I wanted him to think I was old enough that I could take some of that.”
In a clip shared by Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley’s lyrics cut even deeper:
“Secrets, I want to keep your secrets / Like sunlight in the shadows / Like footsteps in the grass / I won’t ever break my promise / Like a songbird in the silence / Like stones against the glass.”
And because this is Miley, she didn’t stop at raw emotion. The track also features members of Fleetwood Mac, making “Secrets” a mix of powerhouse vocals, classic rock influence, and emotional storytelling that already feels timeless.
Between the honesty, the vocals, and the legendary collab, “Secrets” is shaping up to be one of Miley’s most powerful releases yet.
