It’s official: Big Little Lies is coming back!
Yesterday, Variety confirmed that Francesca Sloane will join the third season of the hit HBO drama to write the first episode and serve as executive producer.
Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, the powerhouse duo who’ve been at the forefront of the series since day one, will also return both as stars and executive producers alongside David E. Kelley.
For those who need a refresher, Big Little Lies first debuted in 2017 with a star-studded cast that included Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård, Adam Scott, James Tupper, and Jeffrey Nordling.
The series, based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel of the same name, was originally meant to be a one-and-done limited series. But after the first season blew up, HBO brought the Monterey Five back for season two in 2019, with much of the cast returning, plus the addition of none other than Meryl Streep.
While season one followed Moriarty’s novel, season two was based on original material she created for the series. And now, with a brand-new sequel novel slated to be published in 2026, fans are already wondering how much of season three will tie into Moriarty’s new work.
What we do know: Francesca Sloane joining the creative team is a big deal, Nicole and Reese are back at the wheel, and Monterey’s favorite complicated women aren’t done with us yet.
If you’ve somehow missed the drama, the lies, and the waves of Monterey, now’s the time to binge seasons one and two so you’re ready for season three when it finally drops.
