The rumors are true! Benito Skinner’s hit comedy Overcompensating has been renewed for season two, and the gays (and everyone else, let’s be real) are eating this up. After months of speculation and fan begging, it’s official: we’re going back to Yates University.
“I have been so overwhelmed by the insane response to the show, and feel so damn lucky to go back to Yates University with Amazon MGM Studios, A24, Strong Baby, and this legendary cast for Season 2!! PLAY SUPER BASS :),” Benito said in a statement to Variety.
For those who haven’t binged yet (first of all, what are you doing?), Overcompensating follows Benny, a closeted former football player and homecoming king, as he navigates the chaos of college life with his best friend Carmen.
Between messy hookups, questionable party favors, and the constant pressure to fit in, the series hilariously and heartfully digs into the ways we perform, hide, and stumble our way toward figuring out who we really are. It’s sharp, unhinged, and at times painfully relatable.
Skinner, who writes, stars, and executive produces, will return for season two alongside the stacked cast: Wally Baram, Mary Beth Barone, Rish Shah, Adam DiMarco, Holmes, Corteon Moore, Owen Thiele, and Nell Verlaque.
Produced by A24, Strong Baby, and Amazon MGM Studios, the show has already made a name for itself as one of the boldest new comedies on streaming.
Benito himself summed it up best on Instagram: “WE’RE OFFICIALLY GOING BACK 2 SCHOOL. Thank you so much for all your insane love for this show… And thank you for being so patient while Daddy’s been cooking season 2. One guy at Hudson News told me he’s watched it 7 times… that’s mental illness my love <3.”
Class is officially back in session, and season two can’t come soon enough.
