Austin Butler’s new film Caught Stealing officially hit theatres today, but the king didn’t stop there! He also gave us a brand new shoot and interview that dives into his world right now. And honestly? He’s serving looks, depth, and plenty of charm.
When it comes to scent, Austin opened up about his love for woody fragrances with subtle floral notes. Specifically, he shared his personal connection to YSL Beauty’s Myslf Absolu fragrance, the brand that he’s been a global brand ambassador for.
“I grew up in Orange County, with an orange tree in my backyard, so the smell of orange blossoms brings me back,” he told the outlet. “The people who designed the scent told me stories of Yves Saint Laurent himself in Morocco, and there are all these orange trees around there, too.”
Of course, baseball came up too, since Austin plays a former high school baseball player in Caught Stealing. He admitted that he was not a team sports kid: “They tried to put me in baseball, and I came home crying. I said, ‘I don’t want to be around those other kids.’”
But he does have fond memories of the game, especially attending Angels games with his parents, and later Dodgers games in L.A.: “We were always in the seats that were really far back. I loved that. Getting a Dodger Dog, sitting in the stands with my mom, I have such happy memories.”
And because it’s Elle, we got the ultimate reflective question: what does Austin love about himself? “I’ve been learning over time. It’s hard being a person,” he laughed.
“Figuring out ways of loving yourself is very important. I try to remain curious and open, and to not be too rigid. I’m curious about other people… so that’s taking this question off of myself, but I like my curiosity.”
The full interview is available now on Elle, and if you haven’t already, grab your tickets to Caught Stealing, out today!
