It’s been 22 years since Hilary Duff dropped her debut album, Metamorphosis, on August 23rd, 2003, and honestly… where has time gone?
The pop starlet took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone with a heartfelt (and hilarious) reflection on what that era meant to her. “Clearly I had to go digging around the internet for pictures from this time as I’m not sure camera phones even existed. Sadly all my hairstyles ARE very documented,” Hilary joked while sharing throwback photos from her early-2000s reign.
But the post quickly got deeper. “I do know this marker of time was a huge change in my being. I was embarking on something I had no idea would make such an impact on people’s lives, and mine. As much as I look back and think this album doesn’t hold the emotional depth I look for today, I know my 14/15-year-old self meant every word,” she wrote.
Reflecting on her early live performances, Hilary shared: “It sure as hell also landed on people at the right moment in time and set me off on a pretty epic adventure. I remember some of my first shows being in a skate park in San Jose, and very shortly after, stepping out on stage in arenas. Yesterday marked the 22nd anniversary of Metamorphosis… although these are distant memories for me, thank you for showing up the way that you did.”
And then came the line that shook the internet: “To be continued…” Yes, Hilary Duff left fans (the gays, the girls, and honestly everyone) absolutely spiraling with those three little words.
The last time Hilary released an album was back in June 2015 with her fifth studio record, “Breathe In. Breathe Out.” Even her husband, Matthew Koma, added fuel to the fire a few months ago, posting a photo of Hilary with the caption: “Now please go save millennial pop music, it needs you now more than ever.”
While it’s not clear when (or if) Hilary will officially return to music, one thing feels certain: something is brewing. Until then, praise the gay gods, stream The Best Of, and manifest that Hilary Duff comeback we’ve all been waiting for.
