The queen of life is finally getting her flowers from MTV. The network has officially announced that Mariah Carey will be honored with the 2025 Video Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs, and she’ll take the stage for a performance we already know will be iconic.
The announcement dropped yesterday across the official VMA accounts, teasing fans with: “Get ready to feel alllll the emotions as we celebrate her incredible career. ✨ She takes the stage LIVE September 7th.”
For the first time in twenty years, Mariah will grace the VMA stage delivering a career-spanning medley of her biggest hits in true diva fashion. It’s a full-circle moment, too. Back in 1997, Mariah was the one who presented this very award to LL Cool J, who, in another twist of nostalgia, is this year’s VMAs host.
The award also comes at a perfect time, right before the release of Mariah’s highly anticipated sixteenth studio album, Here For It All, arriving September 26th.
A lot has changed since Mariah made her VMAs debut in 1991 with the first awards show performance of her hit, “Emotions,” but one things for certain, she’s forever an icon.
The 2025 MTV VMAs air live from UBS Arena on Sunday, September 7th at 8PM EST in New York City on CBS and MTV. It’ll also stream on Paramount+!
