Jessica Simpson is stepping back into the spotlight, and into her power, with her brand new single “Fade” and a raw, soulful perspective on what music truly means to her.
In a new interview with Parade, Simpson opened up about the spiritual shift behind her long-awaited return and the intention driving her upcoming Nashville Canyon, Pt. 2 EP, out September 5th.
“Coming back to music is coming back home to myself,” Jessica told Parade, just one day after her electric Today Show performance. “Maybe, for the first time, I’m coming back in the way that I feel I deserve.”
The new single “Fade,” which she debuted live alongside new track “Blame Me” and beloved classics “With You” and “I Think I’m in Love With You,” is a powerful reintroduction to a star who’s no longer chasing charts; she’s chasing truth.
“I was a preacher’s daughter, so I grew up with gospel, praise and worship Christian music. I learned very young the power of music; it emotionally heals through the spirit of God,” Simpson reflected.
“Music, for me, started as a prayer, and I feel like that’s how the blues started.”
It’s a far cry from the pressures of her early 2000s pop career. “It was never about the music. It was never about my voice. It was never about my purpose,” she admitted. “It was about chasing hits… it was a job.”
Now, Jessica’s new chapter is defined by honesty and artistry. She says she wanted Nashville Canyon to be “timeless and real,” sharing something deeply personal rather than just palatable.
Even the way she performs her old hits has evolved. “We stripped it of the stuff that made it manufactured,” she said of the band’s refreshed live versions. “To watch people’s faces light up was everything.”
Between this emotional evolution and her reawakened creative fire, Jessica Simpson is no longer just a pop icon, she’s an artist reborn.
Nashville Canyon Pt. 2 is set for release on September 5th!
