It’s official: Brandon Flynn is stepping into the shoes of a Hollywood legend.
Exclusively revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has been cast as James Dean in the upcoming biopic “Willie and Jimmy Dean,” directed by Guy Guido and based on William Bast’s 2006 memoir “Surviving James Dean.”
The film will explore the alleged secret relationship between James Dean and his longtime friend, William Bast, who met Dean while studying at UCLA. According to the memoir, they formed a personal bond that remained hidden from the public eye to protect Dean’s career.
Flynn opened up about the role in a statement: “James Dean is like the known unknown,” he shared. “His short life left behind just three films, a mountain of photographs and a cultural mythology we keep trying to decode. This script is a beautiful attempt at truthfully understanding who he really was, not just the icon, but the man.”
With Guy Guido at the helm and a story rooted in real-life intimacy, Willie and Jimmy Dean is already shaping up to be a powerful, emotional reimagining of one of Hollywood’s most elusive legends. And with Flynn taking the lead, it’s safe to say this is a performance to watch.
