Austin Butler is back on the big screen… shirt off, jawline sharp enough to cut glass, and in very real danger. The first trailer for Caught Stealing, the new thriller from Darren Aronofsky, just dropped ahead of its August 29th release. If the internet wasn’t already feral for Butler, this movie might just finish the job.
Adapted from Charlie Huston’s 2004 crime novel of the same name, the film stars Butler as Hank Thompson, “a former baseball prodigy whose glory days are long gone,” as the synopsis reads.
These days, Hank’s just tending bar in a New York City dive, dating Zoë Kravitz (casually iconic), and cheering for his beloved underdog baseball team.
That is, until his eccentric neighbor (Matt Smith) asks him to watch his cat, and suddenly, Hank is knee-deep in a mess involving gangsters, secrets, and a lot of people who want him dead. It’s giving: hot man in danger, but make it cinematic.
Joining Butler is a ridiculously stacked cast, including Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, Benito A Martínez Ocasio (aka Bad Bunny), and Carol Kane. If chaos had a dream ensemble, this might be it!
Known for his commitment to roles (remember when he became Elvis?), Butler dove deep into this one too. And judging by the trailer, he’s serving sweat, stubble, and unhinged ex-pro-athlete energy in the best way possible.
Bottom line: Caught Stealing is shaping up to be a late-summer must-watch part thriller, part chaos, all Butler.
Caught Stealing hits theaters August 29.
