From behind-the-scenes songwriting genius to Grammy-nominated pop powerhouse, Julia Michaels has officially entered what feels like her most confident, creatively free, and empowered chapter yet.

Her new EP, Second Self, drops May 23rd via her own label (!!), GFY Records—and it marks a whole new era of artistic independence. “For so long, I was helping other people tell their stories,” Julia recently shared. “This time, it’s just me.” And wow, does it show.

According to the official press release, the EP features ‘six sharp and smart tracks’ including “Heaven II,” “Scissors,” “Try Your Luck,” “F.O.O.L.,” “GFY,” and “Time.” The press release also described the record as “a declaration of artistic ownership, showcasing Michaels’ signature puns, biting lyricism, and deep relatability.”

Julia has spent over a decade shaping pop music as we know it. Her pen has touched hits by Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, P!NK, Britney Spears, Shawn Mendes, and more. She’s behind 25 Billboard Hot 100 hits; 14 of which cracked the Top 40, and co-wrote two No. 1s.

2017 changed everything. That’s when she stepped into the spotlight with her hit “Issues,” which went 5x Platinum and earned her Grammy noms for Best New Artist and Song of the Year.

Since then, she’s been telling her own story through EPs like Nervous System, Inner Monologue Part 1 & 2, and her debut album Not In Chronological Order—projects that gave us poetic gut-punches about love, identity, and everything in between.

With Second Self, Julia Michaels is not just the voice behind the hits anymore. She’s fully stepped into her own spotlight—and she’s not compromising for anyone.
